JUAYUA - place of purple orchids

Is a town located in the department of Sonsonate just 85 Km. from San Salvador and only 9km from Portezuelo Park. It is part of the famous tourist route “Route of the Flowers”. Its name means “place of purple orchids” and is characterized for its local cuisine and weekly gastronomic festival.

The beautiful Santa Lucia church is found within the town square. Home to one of the main attractions in town: the famous replica of the Black Christ. Inside you may find authentic cultural jewels, including precious stained glass windows, antique chandeliers, and two bell towers. Many faithful Catholics utilize this temple as point of pilgrimage. Juayua's local holidays are celebrated from the 8th till the 15th of January, in honor of the Black Christ. In Juayua you may find local crafts, souvenir shops, street market and lots of authentic culture.
